~~HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 -- Full Original Soundtrack(11 Tracks)

Posted on 9:29 PM In: ,

Fans of High School Musical can breathe easy: Based on this soundtrack, the sequel is just as good, and perhaps even better. Though its trailer asked "Are you ready for the start of something new?" HSM2 isn't turning the franchise into The Wire, and really is more of the same--which is, of course, totally fine by us. One of the most energetic tracks is Chad and Ryan's musical/baseball number "I Don't Dance," propelled by a cool big-band swing motif (fans of director Kenny Ortega's choreographic work for Xanadu will be reminded of that movie's mash-up of disco and swing in the "Dancin'" number). Once again Troy and Gabriella get the ballads, but "You Are the Music in Me" is a fine one and doesn't get bogged down in syrup. It also gets reprised by Troy and Sharpay in a rockier and arguably better version. This is typical of the fact that, overall, the bouncier tracks fare best: "All for One" (with its handclaps and surfy guitar licks), the single "What Time Is It" (the time of our lives, of course!), "Work This Out" (complete with percussive, well, workout). Of course everybody's favorite brother-sister team, Ryan and Sharpay, gets a couple of great vehicles: "Fabulous" and the zany, Hawaiian-flavored "Humuhumunukunukuapua'a," which more than anything else sounds like a tribute to the Disney princess of the 1960s: Annette Funicello.

This album is Harry Gregson-Williams's instrumental score for the movie The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Marking the composer's third collaboration with director Andrew Adamson (after both Shrek flicks), this score also is one of the more mature offerings from Gregson-Williams, best known for his work on family films. The music is lush and assured, if a bit predictable. Indeed, it fits squarely in the current style popular for big epics--even using (on a few tracks) the vocals of Lisbeth Scott, which fall halfway between those of Enya and the Cocteau Twins' Liz Fraser (both of whom, uncoincidentally, appeared on the Lords of the Rings soundtracks). The CD concludes with four songs, with Gregson-Williams cowriting Scott's "Where." On "Can't Take It In," Imogen Heap's vocal acrobatics eerily recall those of the Cranberries' Dolores O'Riordan, while Alanis Morissette's "Wunderkind" is an inspirational, almost girl-powerish track written from the point of view of the movie's Lucy. But the best of these songs is "Winter Light" by Tim Finn, four minutes of understated, piano-driven melancholia.

~~DOOM(Movie) -- Full Original Soundtrack(22 tracks)

Posted on 5:35 PM

Featuring "You Know What You Are?" by Nine Inch Nails, with a score composed by Clint Mansell (Sahara).

Millions of devoted fans worldwide have been spellbound by the dark invention of its adventures... have awaited its every incarnation with urgent anticipation... and have devoted countless hours, days and weeks to conquering its hidden mysteries: Doom.

When the home-computer game was first launched in 1993, no one could have foreseen the legion of fans it would create and the mania surrounding its every new permutation. Doom and its successive installments have transfixed gamers worldwide for over a decade and have sold millions of copies (while chalking up an unprecedented tens of millions of downloads as shareware). It is, simply, the most explosive home-computer game franchise phenomenon in history.

Now, the game that made history is jumping from computer screens to the motion-picture screen: get ready for Doom. Set countless years in the future and told in the hyperkinetic, kamikaze style that made its gaming predecessor a global phenomenon, the science-fiction action adventure Doom takes the viewer to the far corners of the galaxy with a fully-realized vision of a dark and disturbing future.

~~BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA -- Full Original Soundtrack(13 tracks)

Posted on 4:39 PM
A  truely magical soundtrack... kids will love it and teens will feel adventurous!!

If the Bridge to Terabithia soundtrack skims the surface of the movie instead of mining for the richest material, it wasn't necessarily a bad move on the producers' part--given the film's 12-and-under target audience, the disc amounts to a snug fit for kids who walk out of a matinee wishing to extend the uplifting mood. And with a trove of songs this good, the grown-ups in their lives shouldn't have much of a problem listening in, even if they're only awaiting Aaron Zigman's four majestic disc-closing score selections. Of the nine bubble-gummish tracks aimed squarely at grade-schoolers, several come across as radio-ready: Jeremy Camp's "Right Here" is crazy-catchy, Jon McLaughlin's "Another Layer" avoids laying on the message too thick, and Miley Cyrus, a.k.a. Hannah Montana, handles herself with Hilary Duff-reminiscent poise on the charming "I Learned from You." Lament the shortened score if you will, but there's still a lot to like here -- AMAZON.com
